Two Guys Talking About Hockey

'Canes top Canadiens

A very entertaining Thursday night contest featured a 'Canes 3rd period win at home.

You have to like 2 fast, smart-skating teams that weren't afraid to mix it up.

And it sure looks, despite the loss, that Cristobal Huet is the real deal in goal, not some Stanley Cup playoff fluke who got hot for a while as he did against the 'Canes last spring. The guy is leading the league in wins and save percentage at .940, and faced 48 shots last night, so even with allowing 4 goals kept his save percentage steady.

Ward, too, seems like the real deal as the season goes on. Very steady goaltender; might give up a few you'd think he should stop but, hey, he's still a kid.

By the way, anyone get a load of Commodore's hairstyle lately? The phrase 'old tennis-ball head' from the old baseball book "Ball Four'' should ring a bell.

  • It seems you two guys don't have many people to talk to about hockey. I can relate to that. It it wasn't for my brother back in NJ I guess I would be talking to myself. As far as the Canes go this year, i have yet to see them post any consistent play. The scoring lines are almost non-existent and if it wasn't for the goalies-both of them- we would have lost a third of the games we won. Last year it was to their benefit that the scoring was so well spread out among the lines, this year i would love to see at least one line be a real threat. I know it is still early in the grind of a long season but i am a little concerned. This western road show they are on now is a case in point, if they cannot do better against teams like Washington and New York what hope do they have against Calgary and Detroit? Three games and only 1 point to show for it, let's hope for better results tonight against Colorado. I do not want to seem like a gloom&doom type of guy, just a realist. I am still behind the Canes and watch them every chance i get. This is my first posting and now that i have found you guys, hope to read and post more.
