Watching hockey
Is pretty cool when you've got a new 50'' high-def TV.
OLN, or should I say VS now comes in on Channel like, 600-something, way up there. So unless you are already a hockey nut, it's not like you're going to discover it if you have DirecTV.
Now, the big question, is whether to splurge on the NHL package, which costs about $150 for the year. I passed on it last year (pre-big screen TV). Anybody out there get the package? Is it worth it?
I mean, I'm supposed to be a hockey nut, but $150 isn't chump change.
And though I like to watch hockey in general, I can probably live with 2 nights a week of VS and any Hurricanes (I still feel like calling them the Whalers, even after nearly five years here in N.C.) I can get off Fox.

So the big question is "Who's your son?'' And how did you wind up in Winston-Salem?
Which reminds me of the great joke about the original Kings owner, Jack Kent Cooke, who was asked why, in the early years the Kings were in L.A. why the crowds weren't bigger and why he had brought hockey to southern California.
He replied: "Well, they told me there were 2 million Canadiens living in southern California. What they didn't tell me is that they all moved here because they hated hockey.''

OK, I hadn't caught up with Patrick O'Sullivan, who Michael Huie wrote about back in 2003 when he was drafted by the Wild.
That's GREAT, that he made the NHL. We will have to keep our eye on the local kid. You are living a parent's dream, with an athlete from a small local youth hockey program who 'made it.'
I still get excited thinking about my son's first year at NC State, where he's made the "B'' team for club hockey and will be playing other college club teams (including right back here at the Coliseum Annex against Wake Forest)
